Kazakhstan to support Turkmenistan's peacekeeping initiatives

ALMATY, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Turkmenistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, who arrived in Astana for an official visit on Tuesday, according to the Kazakh presidential press service.

President Tokayev highlighted that Kazakh-Turkmen relations are developing steadily across all areas, strengthening the bonds of friendship and strategic partnership.

During the meeting, Tokayev congratulated Turkmenistan on the launch of the "International Year of Peace and Trust," declared by the Turkmen parliament in December 2024, which coincides with the 30th anniversary of the country's policy of permanent neutrality.

Emphasizing the importance of Turkmenistan's peacekeeping initiatives, Tokayev expressed Kazakhstan's readiness to continue providing full support for their successful implementation.

Meredov described Kazakh-Turkmen cooperation as strategic in nature, with strong long-term prospects. In this regard, the Turkmen delegation reaffirmed Ashgabat's commitment to further strengthening cooperation with Astana across the entire spectrum of interstate relations.

The parties discussed the progress of implementing previously reached high-level agreements in the fields of energy, transit and transport, social sectors, and culture. Enditem
