LJUBLJANA, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia's exports of goods to non-European Union (EU) countries jumped by 25 percent in 2024, while imports from those countries rose by 47 percent, the country's Statistical Office said Tuesday.

Slovenia joined the EU in 2004, and for decades, EU member states were its main trading partners. However, in 2024, imports from non-EU countries surpassed those from EU states, while exports to non-EU members were under 2 percent lower than exports to EU countries.

China remains one of Slovenia's key trading partners, largely due to high import volumes. Slovenia's exports to China grew 6.3 percent in 2024, and imports from China declined 5.4 percent.

Slovenia imported most in terms of value from Switzerland, followed by Germany, China, India, and Italy, the office said in a statement. Meanwhile, Slovenia's main export markets were Switzerland, Germany, Croatia, Italy, and Austria.

The office added that chemical products accounted for 45.6 percent of the country's total exports and 49.5 percent of its total imports.

Slovenia's primary exports encompass pharmaceutical products, household appliances, automobiles, automotive components, and metal products. Last year, the country's total exports rose by almost 12 percent, whereas imports surged by 21 percent. Enditem
