MADRID, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Atletico Madrid cruised into the semifinals of the Copa del Rey on Tuesday with a comfortable 5-0 win at home to Getafe.

Atletico had been expected to put on a close game against a rugged opponent, but ran riot in the first half and wrapped up the game within 45 minutes.

Giuliano Simeone scored Atletico's first two goals, planting a free header past goalkeeper Jiri Letacek after just seven minutes on a Javi Galan cross from the left.

He then finished a fine move involving Julian Alvarez and Rodrigo De Paul to double Atletico's lead, and Samuel Lino made it 3-0 in the 42nd minute.

The winger took advantage of some tentative defending to turn defender Juan Iglesias and curl his shot into the far corner of the net out of Letacek's reach.

Simeone was unlucky to see what would have been his hat-trick goal ruled out for a very tight offside at the start of the second half, before he was substituted, with Diego Simeone switching tactics for his side to sit deeper and allow Getafe to try and take the initiative.

With the Atletico defense looking solid, Angel Correa drilled in Atletico's fourth of the game from outside the penalty area in the 78th minute, and he then combined with Alexander Sorloth who made it 5-0 eight minutes later.

Real Madrid visits Leganes on Wednesday, with the last two quarterfinals held on Thursday as Real Sociedad entertains Osasuna and Valencia is at home to FC Barcelona, who won 7-1 in a league meeting between the two sides less than two weeks ago. Enditem
