VIENTIANE, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Lao police in northern Bokeo province intercepted a huge drug haul after discovering a pick-up truck containing 4.4 million amphetamine pills.

The truck was abandoned in Phibounthong village, Huayxai district, on Jan. 30. The police are now investigating the incident to trace the source of the drugs and apprehend suspects, the local news website Lao Pattana News reported on Wednesday.

In 2024, Lao authorities have handled a total of 3,395 drug-related cases, arresting 5,168 suspects.

The Lao government will continue to work with relevant departments at all levels to intensify measures to suppress the drug trade and eliminate drug abuse in the country. Enditem
