VIENTIANE, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government is targeting a 4.3 percent growth in agriculture for 2025, aiming to increase the sector's contribution to 22.4 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP).

To achieve these targets, the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry plans to produce 3.9 million tons of rice, mostly grown in 10 target provinces, according to the ministry's report released on Wednesday.

The ministry will also encourage farmers to cultivate other crops across 279,680 hectares of land, with an expected yield of 2.46 million tons.

To improve nutrition and ensure food security, the ministry aims to produce 577,000 tons of meat, eggs, and fish, providing an estimated 73 kg of these products per person annually.

Additionally, the Lao government plans to make 4.5 million hectares of land available for farming, representing 19 percent of the country's total land area. Enditem
