JAKARTA, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's resort island of Bali has experienced extreme heat, with temperatures reaching up to 36 degrees Celsius in some areas over the past two days, according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Regional Bali on Wednesday.

"Two of our geophysical stations recorded temperatures in the extreme category, namely Sanglah in Denpasar city and Negara in Jembrana Regency. Meanwhile, other stations showed average temperatures," said Wayan Musteana, head of the BMKG Regional Bali.

Over the past three decades, the average normal temperature in Sanglah has been 32.5 degrees Celsius, while in Negara, it has been 31.3 degrees Celsius. The BMKG classifies temperatures as extreme when they exceed the normal average by more than three degrees.

The extreme heat is expected to persist for the next few days as the sun moves closer to the equator. Meanwhile, Bali, like much of Indonesia, is in the midst of the rainy season, which peaked in January and is now gradually decreasing in intensity. Enditem
