DHAKA, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's inflation slowed to 9.94 percent in January, the first time the rate has dropped to single digits since September last year, according to the latest data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

The BBS attributed the drop to slower prices of vegetables. The Consumer Price Index released by the BBS showed that food inflation declined to 10.72 percent, down from 12.92 percent in December.

In June last year, Bangladesh set the inflation rate target at 6 percent for the 2024-25 fiscal year.

The country's average inflation surged to 9.73 percent in the fiscal year 2023-24 (from July 2023 to June 2024), much higher than the budgetary target of 7.5 percent for the fiscal year. Enditem
