ABU DHABI -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced on Wednesday the success of its latest mediation efforts between Russia and Ukraine, which resulted in the exchange of 300 prisoners of war.
According to a statement by UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the swap included 150 prisoners from Ukraine and 150 from Russia. (UAE-Russia-Ukraine-Mediation)

TEHRAN -- Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has appointed Hezbollah's Secretary-General Naim Qassem as his representative in Lebanon, Iran's IRIB news agency reported on Wednesday.
The appointment was made in a decree issued by Khamenei, the report said. The position was previously held by former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike in southern Beirut in September last year. (Iran-Hezbollah-Lebanon)

CAIRO -- Middle East governments and regional leaders on Wednesday roundly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's suggestion that Washington could assume control of Gaza and relocate Palestinians, calling the proposal a breach of international law and a threat to longstanding efforts toward a two-state solution.

KHARTOUM -- The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on Wednesday said it has made significant gains in the capital Khartoum after heavy fighting with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
"Our forces have made significant progress in Khartoum, securing the entire area of Al-Rumaila, a medical depot, an industrial area, and the state's currency mint," SAF's spokesman Nabil Abdallah said in a statement. However, the RSF denied any such advances by the army. (Sudan-Civil-War) Enditem
