BAGHDAD, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi leaders met with Iran's Vice President for Strategic Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif here on Thursday to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues.
A statement by the presidency media office said that Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid held a meeting with Zarif, reaffirming Iraq's dedication to strengthening bilateral relations.
Rashid outlined Iraq's policy of maintaining regional stability and security, emphasizing that adopting constructive dialogue is the key to addressing the region's challenges and achieving lasting peace, the statement said.
He also reiterated Iraq's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, underscoring Iraq's long-standing stance in favor of Palestinian self-determination and statehood, according to the statement.
For his part, Zarif reiterated Iran's strong support for Iraq's security, sovereignty, and independence, noting the vital role played by both countries in promoting regional peace and cooperation, it added.
Zarif also met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, during which the two discussed ways to enhance partnership in various fields, according to a statement issued by al-Sudani's media office.
They also discussed the latest regional developments and emphasized the importance of coordinating positions and actions to support international security and stability, it said. Enditem
