KIEV, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday that his country would need between 40 billion and 50 billion U.S. dollars to provide housing for internally displaced persons (IDPs), the Ukrinform news agency reported.

"There are about 5 million displaced people in Ukraine today. They are in dire need of help," Zelensky said at a joint press conference in Kiev with Odile Renaud-Basso, the president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is counting on EBRD assistance to support those displaced by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, primarily through housing initiatives.

He also proposed using frozen Russian assets to fund housing for Ukraine's IDPs.

Earlier this week, the Ukrainian government allocated 15 billion hryvnias (about 360 million dollars) in compensation to IDPs for the homes damaged or destroyed in the conflict. Enditem
