TUNIS, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian President Kais Saied on Thursday stressed his country's firm rejection of the expulsion of Palestinians from their homeland.

Saied made the remarks during a meeting with Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, a senior preacher of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, according to a statement issued Friday morning by the Tunisian presidency.

Saied also voiced firm support for the Palestinian people's right to establish an independent and fully sovereign state on all the land of Palestine, with Jerusalem as its capital.

The remarks come amid U.S. President Donald Trump's recent statements regarding Gaza. Trump proposed earlier this week that the United States could take control of the Gaza Strip after relocating Palestinians elsewhere. Enditem
