BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Facundo Colidio scored two second-half goals to fire River Plate to a 2-0 home win over Independiente in the Argentine Primera Division's Apertura tournament on Saturday.

After a dour first half, Colidio put his side ahead just after the restart by meeting Gonzalo Montiel's perfectly executed cross with a close range header.

The host doubled its lead in stoppage time when Colidio sent a cool finish into the bottom-left corner after combining with Milton Casco on the counterattack.

The result at Estadio Monumental lifted River Plate to third in Group B with eight points from four matches, two points behind leader Rosario Central. Independiente is second in the 15-team group, a point ahead of River Plate.

Meanwhile, Boca Juniors missed the chance to stay in touch with the Group A pacesetter as it slumped to a 2-0 loss at Racing Club.

Luciano Vietto and Adrian Martinez scored either side of halftime for the host before Kevin Zenon was shown a straight red card for hacking down Maximiliano Salas in the 89th minute.

Racing now has nine points from four games, four points ahead of Boca Juniors.

In other Primera Division Apertura fixtures on Saturday, Rosario Central prevailed 3-1 at home to Atletico Tucuman, and San Lorenzo held Velez Sarsfield to a goalless home draw. Enditem
