KABUL, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan caretaker government's Ministry of Public Works has signed road construction contracts with two companies worth 713 million afghani (more than 9.6 million U.S. dollars), a spokesman for the ministry said on Sunday.

With a length of 49 km, the road will link the eastern province of Wardak to the neighboring province of Logar, Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesman for the ministry, said on social media.

The project to construct the road, which consists of 120 culverts, is planned to be completed within 16 months, he said.

The ministry has signed a contract worth nearly 3.6 million U.S. dollars to conduct a survey and design for the proposed Herat-Kandahar railway on Thursday. Enditem
