MANILA, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- A 64-year-old woman died in a fire that gutted six houses in the Philippine capital, a spokesperson for the Bureau of Fire said Sunday.

Firefighter Alejandro Ramos said that the woman was fast asleep inside one of the houses when the fire broke out late Saturday night. It took firefighters two hours to put out the fire due to the narrow alleyways in the crowded community in the Tondo district.

"The fire spread fast the houses made of combustible and light materials," Ramos told reporters.

The fire displaced at least seven families, Ramos said, adding that firefighters have been looking into the cause of the fatal fire. Enditem
