ABU DHABI, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- G42, an artificial intelligence (AI) company of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and U.S. tech company Microsoft have launched a foundation to "promote responsible AI standards and best practices in the Middle East and the Global South," the UAE's official news agency WAM reported Sunday.

The Abu Dhabi-based Responsible AI Foundation, focused on responsible AI research, implementation, and governance and supported by Abu Dhabi's Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, is the first center of its kind in the Middle East, said the report.

In collaboration with G42, Microsoft also announced the expansion of its AI for Good Lab to Abu Dhabi, with its first batch of researchers starting to work in March, it added.

With the new foundation and the lab expansion, "G42 and the UAE are cementing themselves as a global hub for responsible AI development," WAM reported. Enditem
