BERLIN, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Francesco Friedrich often feels that 24 hours in a day are not enough. The 34-year-old German bobsleigh legend is not just an elite athlete but a dedicated sporting scientist, always looking for ways to refine his craft. Even after 18 years of competition, over 50 World Cup victories, 16 World Championship titles, and four Olympic gold medals, he continues to push his limits.

One year ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics, Friedrich remains obsessed with perfection. He credits German head coach Rene Spies for helping the team improve, particularly in their starting times. Spies has been instrumental in attracting track and field athletes to bobsleigh, a move that has shaved off crucial hundredths of a second. Though small, these margins often determine champions.

The Bob and Skeleton World Cup in Lillehammer this weekend also served as the 2025 European Championships, once again demonstrating Germany's dominance in the sport. Friedrich claimed gold in the two-man event, while Johannes Lochner triumphed in the four-man race. Laura Nolte, the 2022 Beijing Olympic champion, secured victories in both the two-woman event and the mono-bob. With Germany sweeping all four titles, their precision and pursuit of excellence were evident once again.

Looking ahead, Friedrich has one ultimate goal - to end his international career at the 2026 Winter Games with another Olympic victory. He is carefully planning every step, knowing that the competition will be fierce until the very last second. He explained that preparations for the new track are already underway, with some athletes set to test it before adjustments are made. Training is scheduled to begin in October 2025, followed by competitions.

As a 12-time overall World Cup winner, Friedrich understands that constant innovation and attention to detail will be crucial. With the 2026 Olympics marking the final chapter of his legendary career, his relentless pursuit of perfection will drive him forward until his last race down the ice. Enditem
