KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's construction work done value in 2024 reached 158.8 billion ringgit (35.55 billion U.S. dollars), registering a double-digit growth of 20.2 percent as compared to 8.4 percent in the previous year, official data showed Monday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the country's construction sector in 2024 demonstrated solid performance, underpinned by broad-based growth across all sub-sectors.

All sub-sectors experienced an uptrend with notable double-digit increases recorded in special trade activities (35.9 percent), residential buildings (24.5 percent) and non-residential buildings (15.5 percent).

Meanwhile, civil engineering activities maintained steady double-digit growth at 17.3 percent.

As for the fourth quarter of 2024, the work done value grew 23.1 percent year on year to 42 billion ringgit.

The vibrant performance was primarily driven by the buoyant performance of special trade activities and residential buildings sub-sectors, which recorded substantial double-digit increases of 44.9 percent and 38.9 percent, respectively.

The private sector remained the primary driver of growth in the fourth quarter, contributing 27 billion ringgit or 64.2 percent of the total value of work done. (1 ringgit equals 0.22 U.S. dollars) Enditem
