4 Turkmenistan ice hockey players banned from furthur participation of Harbin AWG

HARBIN, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Four Turkmenistan men's ice hockey players have been banned by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) from further participation of the Harbin Asian Winter Games after attacking Hong Kong players.

The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China released the statement on Monday.

During their post-match handshake after Hong Kong clinched a 5-1 victory over Turkmenistan on Sunday, several Hong Kong players were knocked to the ground by Turkmenistan players.

In response, referees issued penalties of "5-minute major + 20-minute game misconduct" to three of the Turkmenistan players involved.

The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China confirmed that three injured players, one of whom required stitches on his hand, will still participate in the upcoming match against Kyrgyzstan on Monday night after receiving medical treatment.

With Arslan Geldimyradov, Arslan Nuryyev, Begench Dovletmyradov and Novruz Bayhanov suspended, Turkmenistan lost to Kuwait in the men's placement 9-10 match on Monday. Enditem
