MANILA, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Three people have died and two others remain missing after floodwaters swept a van in Palawan province in the southwestern Philippines on Sunday, local authorities have said.

Mac Villarosa of the Palawan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said on Monday night that the van, carrying 12 people, was caught up in the floodwaters on Sunday night.

Seven passengers of the van had been rescued, Villarosa said, noting that the bodies of three were found on Monday.

The missing people were the van's driver and his wife, Villarosa said.

The provincial emergency operations center reported that 1,454 families were evacuated as of Monday afternoon in at least four towns in Palawan, due to massive flooding triggered by continuous rain in recent days. Enditem
