YAOUNDE, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Cameroonian President Paul Biya has unveiled a series of measures aimed at reforming the nation's employment system, with a goal of improving job access for young people.

The government will establish a regulatory framework to support the recruitment of first-time jobseekers, Biya said in a televised message on Monday evening.

He said that the framework will help consolidate, analyze and disseminate information on available job opportunities.

To preserve the environment and combat climate change, the government has created the Green Jobs Promotion Program, which will "ultimately help to create over 10,000 jobs through income-generating activities in areas such as sanitation, waste recycling and organic farming," said the president.

The government is also working to employ more health workers and ensure that training opportunities mirror actual labor market needs, he added.

According to data from the National Institute of Statistics in Cameroon, the unemployment rate in the country in 2024 was 3.6 percent.

Biya's speech was televised on National Youth Day, celebrated annually on Feb. 11 in the Central African country. Enditem
