KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Police have discovered more than 4 tons of illicit drugs in the Shorabak district of southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province, provincial police spokesman Assadullah Jamshid said Tuesday.

The contraband, which includes 85 kg of opium poppy, more than 3 tons of hashish, and a huge quantity of the objects used in manufacturing heroin, were discovered on Monday, the official said, adding those involved in the trafficking of the illegal items made their good escape.

All the confiscated illicit drugs have been handed over to the counter-narcotics police department in the provincial capital Kandahar city, Jamshid further said.

In similar operations, police discovered 30 kg of hashish from a car in the eastern Laghman province on Monday and arrested an alleged smuggler, police said. Enditem
