ISLAMABAD, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Remittances sent by overseas Pakistani workers increased by 25 percent in January 2025 on a year-on-year basis as compared to the same period last year, officials from the State Bank of Pakistan said on Tuesday.
The workers' remittances recorded an inflow of 3 billion U.S. dollars during January as compared to 2.4 billion dollars recorded in the same month last year, posting an increase of 25 percent, central bank officials said.
Over the last seven months, the country received 20.9 billion dollars in remittances during the July-January period of fiscal year 2025 compared to 15.8 billion dollars during the same period of the previous fiscal year, up 32.27 percent.
The inflows during January 2025 were mainly from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Britain and the United States, the central bank added.
Workers' remittances play an important role in Pakistan's economy as they are one of the major sources of foreign exchange and boost household income, according to the country's economic experts. Enditem
