ISLAMABAD, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Tuesday that the country is committed to prioritizing the empowerment of women and girls in the field of science, ensuring that women become key drivers of progress and innovation in years to come.

"Empowering women and girls in science is a national priority and all-out efforts are being made to create an enabling environment and provide equal opportunities in this regard," the prime minister said in his message on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

Acknowledging the remarkable contributions of women in shaping the world through scientific discovery, innovation, and leadership, Sharif said that equal participation of men and women in scientific research and technological advancement is essential for economic development and societal well-being.

Keeping in mind that the future depends on innovation and technological progress, he said that the government of Pakistan has prioritized programs that focus on skill development, support for women-led start-ups, and greater access to research funding.

"Initiatives include training in robotics, artificial intelligence, and digital solutions, scholarships and programs encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship," he added. Enditem
