ANKARA, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAS) and Turkmengaz, Turkmenistan's national gas company, have signed a deal to supply Turkmen natural gas to Türkiye as of March, Türkiye's minister of energy and natural resources announced Tuesday.
"We took a historic step in Türkiye-Turkmenistan energy cooperation. An agreement has been signed between BOTAS and Turkmengaz to bring Turkmen gas to our country," Alparslan Bayraktar said on social media platform X.
"Within the scope of the agreement, gas flow (into Türkiye) is planned to start on March 1, 2025. With this agreement, which we have been working on for many years, we will strengthen the natural gas supply security of our country and our region, while furthering the strategic cooperation between the two countries," Bayraktar added.
The minister earlier said that in the initial phase, up to 2 billion cubic meters of gas will be transported annually from Turkmenistan.
The two countries aim for an annual gas trade volume of 15 billion cubic meters in the next 20 years, the Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Ministry said last year. Enditem
