DAMASCUS, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye has lifted restrictions on Syrian exports and reopened its territory for transit trade, marking a significant step toward reviving economic ties between the two countries, a Syrian official was quoted by Syria's state news agency SANA as saying on Tuesday.

Mazen Aloush, director of relations at Syria's General Authority for Land and Sea Ports, told SANA that discussions between the authority and Türkiye's Ministry of Trade had led to the decision, which will allow Syrian goods and products to enter Turkish markets freely.

The move also permits Syrian exporters to use Turkish territory for transit trade, facilitating shipments to foreign markets that had been previously limited by trade restrictions.

"The lifting of these restrictions reflects the depth of trade relations between the two countries," Aloush said.

The decision is part of broader efforts to enhance regional trade and economic stability following Syria's political transition in December last year. Enditem
