BUCHAREST, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Constitutional Court of Romania on Tuesday declared the office of President vacant and confirmed that Ilie Bolojan, President of the Senate, will take over as interim president on Feb. 12, 2025.
The decision follows the resignation of Klaus Iohannis. He announced his resignation on Monday and confirmed he will leave the Cotroceni Palace on Wednesday.
The Court ruled that the vacancy of the presidential office justifies the temporary assumption of presidential duties by Bolojan, in accordance with Article 98 (1) of the Constitution.
The ruling will now be communicated to Parliament and the Government, and published in the Official Journal of Romania. Enditem
