RABAT, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Moroccan navy intercepted 41 sub-Saharan migrants off the Atlantic coast, the official Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP) reported on Tuesday, citing a military statement.

A navy patrol vessel intercepted a boat en route to the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago off northwestern Africa, during an operation 118 km northwest of Tantan on Monday, according to the statement.

The migrants received necessary care before being handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for standard administrative procedures, it added.

Morocco is a transit point for some West African migrants aiming to reach Europe. Enditem
