BUCHAREST, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Romanian Senate announced Tuesday that Vice President Mircea Abrudean has assumed interim leadership of the upper chamber while Ilie Bolojan serves as interim head of state.
According to an official statement released on the Senate's website in the evening, Abrudean will fulfill the duties of Senate president in accordance with constitutional provisions during Bolojan's interim presidency.
Bolojan signed an official decision on Tuesday to formalize the transition, ensuring legislative continuity and the smooth operation of the Senate.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Constitutional Court of Romania declared the office of president vacant and confirmed that Bolojan will take over as interim president. Enditem
