BUCHAREST, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Catalin Predoiu was appointed interim president of the National Liberal Party (PNL) on Tuesday after Ilie Bolojan temporarily stepped down to assume the role of interim President of Romania.

The decision was unanimously approved by PNL's National Political Bureau, in accordance with legal provisions that prohibit the interim head of state from holding party leadership positions.

As a key member of the governing coalition, PNL reaffirmed its commitment to political and economic stability, fiscal consolidation, and securing European Union funds. The party is also focused on the upcoming presidential election, where its candidate, Crin Antonescu, will compete.

The coalition, established in December 2024, also includes the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), and representatives of national minorities. Enditem
