BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Miguel Merentiel and Exequiel Zeballos scored second-half goals as Boca Juniors eased to a 2-0 home victory over Independiente Rivadavia in Argentina's Primera Division Apertura tournament on Tuesday.

The hosts went ahead just after halftime when Merentiel capitalized on an inexplicable fumble by goalkeeper Ezequiel Centurion before firing into an unguarded net.

Zeballos doubled the lead seven minutes from time by rifling home from eight yards after Milton Gimenez's shot was parried away by Centurion.

It was just the second win for Boca in five games this campaign and came three days after a 2-0 loss to Racing.

The result leaves the Buenos Aires outfit eighth in the 15-team Group A standings, three points behind leaders Estudiantes and trailing Independiente Rivadavia on goal difference.

"We struggled with our final pass but after the first goal the dynamics changed," Boca manager Fernando Gago told a post-match news conference. "We were able to string more passes together and our strikers had more space to attack."

Gago, who took charge of Boca last October, admitted his side was still a work in progress and called for fans and the media to be patient.

"We all know that football is about results but every team needs time to adapt," Gago said. "If I told you that I knew how long that is exactly, I would be lying to you. With every match and every training session we are closer to the way we want to play."

In other Primera Division fixtures on Tuesday, Belgrano won 2-0 at home to Aldosivi, Tigre prevailed 1-0 at home to Racing Club, Estudiantes edged to a 1-0 home win over Banfield and Central Cordoba drew 3-3 at Barracas Central. Enditem
