KABUL, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- The extremist militant group Islamic State (IS) has taken responsibility for a suicide attack in northern Afghanistan's Kunduz province, local media TOLOnews TV reported Wednesday.

Five people lost their lives and seven others were injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up in front of the Kabul Bank in Kunduz city, the provincial capital of the province, Tuesday morning, said Jumadin Khaksar, the provincial police spokesman.

Earlier, in January, the Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for an attack that killed a Chinese national in northern Afghanistan's Takhar province.

The group has also claimed responsibility for a similar attack in which Afghanistan's Acting Minister for Refugees and Repatriation was killed in December of last year.

The Afghan caretaker government has pledged to take action against armed opposition throughout the Central Asian country. Enditem
