TUNIS, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- A Tunisian peacekeeper serving under the United Nations in the Central African Republic was killed near the border with Chad, the Tunisian Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday.
"The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, when a Tunisian military patrol, part of the Rapid Intervention Unit deployed under the UN's blue helmets, was ambushed. The attack resulted in the death of one patrol member," said a ministry statement.
The patrol was carrying out a routine mission as part of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic.
Tunisia deployed its Rapid Intervention Unit to the Central African Republic in June 2021. The unit's mission includes supporting frontline forces, protecting civilians, securing designated areas, escorting humanitarian convoys, and safeguarding UN personnel. Enditem
