HELSINKI, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Swedish government introduced additional measures on Wednesday to enhance school security following last week's deadly campus shooting.

At a press conference, officials announced plans to expand camera surveillance, enforce stricter entry controls, and grant school principals the authority to inspect students' bags and belongings. Collaboration between schools and other institutions will also be strengthened to improve campus safety.

Schools will be legally required to develop preparedness plans for violent incidents, while public health services will place greater emphasis on students' mental well-being.

These measures are part of the government's ongoing security reforms following the shooting at Risbergska Skolan in Orebro last Tuesday, which left 11 people dead. The attack prompted a government review of school security.

Education Minister Johan Pehrson outlined legislative changes to implement the new measures, which could take effect as early as this summer if expedited. Swedish Television reported that the government had previously announced plans to tighten firearm regulations in response to the tragedy. Enditem
