SEOUL, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export of information and communications technology (ICT) products fell last month due to fewer business days, government data showed Thursday.
The ICT products shipment slipped 0.4 percent from a year earlier to 16.29 billion U.S. dollars in January, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
It marked the first reduction in 15 months on fewer working days, caused by the Lunar New Year's holidays.
Semiconductor exports gained 7.7 percent to 10.14 billion dollars last month, keeping a double-digit growth for the 15th consecutive month on robust demand for high bandwidth memory products used in generative artificial intelligence chipsets.
Display panel shipment tumbled 16.1 percent to 1.26 billion dollars, and mobile phone export declined 8.8 percent to 1.01 billion dollars.
The shipment of computers and peripherals jumped 10.0 percent to 930 million dollars, but the export of communications equipment retreated 20.9 percent to 160 million dollars.
Import for ICT products grew 13.4 percent over the year to 13.45 billion dollars in January, sending the trade surplus in the ICT industry to 2.83 billion dollars.
Chip import soared 40.1 percent to 7.74 billion dollars, but those for display panels and mobile phones reduced in double digits to 360 million dollars and 610 million dollars each. Enditem
