LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Police have discovered a large quantity of arms and ammunition in southern Afghanistan's Helmand province, provincial police spokesman Ezatullah Haqqani said Thursday.

The weaponry, which includes five machine guns and hundreds of projectiles, was found in a house in Marja district, the statement added without providing more details.

Similarly, the security forces discovered arms and ammunition from the northern Takhar province a couple of days ago.

The Afghan caretaker government, since assuming power in August 2021, has rounded up thousands of arms and ammunition as part of efforts to stabilize peace and security in the war-riddled country. Enditem
