CAIRO, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit reaffirmed on Thursday the organization's firm rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians from their land, stressing that "Gaza is not for sale."
"I reaffirm the firm and absolute rejection of the Arab League, being the institution gathering all Arab states, of any attempts to displace Palestinians from their land under any pretext," Aboul-Gheit said during a session of the AL's economic and social council in Cairo, broadcast on Egypt's state TV.
He emphasized that Gaza is part of the future Palestinian state, which will be established along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the two-state solution.
Aboul-Gheit also stressed that the Palestinian issue is "the central cause for the Arabs, both peoples and governments."
The AL chief added that these attempts to displace Palestinians constitute a blatant injustice to their rights.
Aboul-Gheit also denounced the recent Israeli military escalation in the West Bank.
The remarks came amid heightened concerns after U.S. President Donald Trump recently suggested redeveloping Gaza and relocating its population to neighboring countries including Jordan and Egypt.
The controversial proposal has been rejected both regionally and internationally.
Cairo is scheduled to host an emergency Arab summit on Feb. 27 to address the latest developments of the Palestinian issue. Enditem
