NAIROBI, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- A news photo exhibition titled "Lens of Xinhua, Images of the Century" kicked off on Wednesday at the Chinese Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya's capital.
Coinciding with the traditional Chinese Lantern Festival, the opening ceremony took place in a warm and festive atmosphere. The event drew officials from the United Nations Office at Nairobi, representatives of the Kenyan government, diplomatic envoys, local academics, media professionals and members of the Chinese community.
In his opening remarks, Yuan Bingzhong, vice president of Xinhua News Agency, said the exhibition is a vivid and compelling showcase of China's remarkable journey in sustainable development since its founding in 1949.
These images not only capture defining moments of China's development but also inspire a sense of responsibility, promote mutual understanding and strengthen international cooperation across various fields, Yuan said.
Zainab Hawa Bangura, director-general of the United Nations Office at Nairobi, expressed her deep appreciation for the exhibition's authentic portrayal of China's remarkable development and progress.
She said that the photographs, which focus on issues such as sustainable development and environmental protection, provide valuable insights for African nations tackling similar challenges.
Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan highlighted the exhibition's significance in reflecting on China's development trajectory and its global implications.
"Let's seek answers from China's development trajectory, draw wisdom from the enduring friendship between China and Africa, and forge confidence," Guo said.
Jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy in Kenya and Xinhua News Agency Africa Regional Bureau, the exhibition will run until the end of February. Enditem
