TRIPOLI, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Thursday said that in Libya, 1,500 refugees were evacuated or resettled in 2024.
"In 2024 ... UNHCR provided life-saving aid and long-term solutions to some of the most vulnerable," UNHCR said in a statement.
"1,500 refugees were safely evacuated or resettled, giving them a chance to rebuild their lives," the statement added.
Also, tens of thousands of refugees in Libya were provided last year with medical and financial support, as well as essential items, the statement noted.
Libya has been plagued by insecurity and chaos since the fall of its late leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, leading many migrants, primarily from sub-Saharan Africa, to attempt perilous sea crossings to Europe from the country. Enditem
