WASHINGTON, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Senate on Thursday confirmed Brooke Rollins, a lawyer and former White House policy advisor, as the Trump administration's agriculture secretary.

The upper chamber approved the nomination by vote of 72 to 28, following a nomination hearing on Jan. 23.

Rollins, who served as the acting director of the White House Domestic Policy Council during Donald Trump's first presidential term, played an important role in shaping domestic policy, including areas like criminal justice reform, healthcare, and economic policies.

Prior to that, Rollins served as president and CEO of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, a conservative think tank, for 15 years.

Also on Thursday, the Senate confirmed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as secretary for the Department of Health and Human Services, despite opposition among Democrats for his past statements on vaccines.

The upper chamber approved the nomination by vote of 52 to 48, largely along party line. Mitch McConnell, the former Republican majority leader, was the only Republican who voted against Kennedy. Enditem
