SYDNEY, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- A man was killed and six others injured in a three-vehicle crash on a major highway south of Sydney on Friday.
Police in the state of New South Wales said that the three vehicles collided while heading south on a highway near the suburb of Waterfall, 35 km south of central Sydney, at about 6:10 a.m. local time.
Firefighters, police and ambulance crews were deployed to the scene where the sole occupant of one of the vehicles, a man believed to be in his 60s, was declared deceased.
"Six people who were in the other two vehicles suffered various injuries and were all taken to hospital for treatment," a police statement said.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that one of those six people was airlifted to hospital. Seven Network television said that all six people who were hospitalized were males aged between 18 and their mid-30s.
Police said that the impact of the crash pushed the deceased man's vehicle through a fence towards nearby railway tracks.
A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances of the crash commenced.
Police appealed for any witnesses, anyone who was traveling in the area at the time and anyone who had dashcam footage to come forward. Enditem
