SINGAPORE, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) cleared nearly 230.4 million travelers in 2024, marking a 20 percent increase compared to the previous year, the authority reported on Friday.
The volume also surpassed pre-COVID-19 levels, largely driven by a sharp rise in travelers using land checkpoints, which accounted for over 75 percent of the total, the ICA said in its annual statistics.
To streamline checkpoint clearance, the ICA introduced its "New Clearance Concept" in 2024. This initiative allows residents to enjoy passport-free clearance at major checkpoints and extends automated clearance to all foreign visitors.
The volume of cargo cleared through the checkpoints saw a decline in 2024. The number of containers, consignments, and parcels processed dropped by 5.8 percent, mainly due to a continued decrease in parcel clearances since 2021, the report said.
Additionally, the volume of low-value goods cleared fell by 9.4 percent over the same period. Enditem
