KABUL, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's Herat province has exported pistachio worth over 24 million U.S. dollars during the past 10 months, the provincial director of industry and commerce, Mohammad Yousuf Amin, said Friday.

"During the ten months of the 1403 solar year (in the Persian calendar, the year 1403 started from March 20), pistachio exports reached 24.676 million dollars, an increase of 21 percent compared to last year," private media outlet Tolonews quoted Amin as saying.

Herat province is one of the largest producers of pistachio provinces in Afghanistan. Its economy largely relies on foreign aid and agricultural products.

Afghanistan's main export items include coal, saffron, fresh and dry fruits, hand-woven carpets, and precious and semi-precious stones. Enditem
