NEW DELHI, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- India's wholesale price index (WPI) eased to 2.31 percent in January this year, data released by the federal ministry of commerce and industry Friday said.

"The annual rate of inflation based on all India WPI number is 2.31 percent (provisional) for the month of January 2025 (over January 2024)," according to a statement issued by the ministry.

The positive rate of inflation in January is primarily due to increase in prices of the manufacturing of food products, food articles, other manufacturing, non-food articles and textiles, the statement added.

The WPI inflation, an indicator of prices in the wholesale market, rises or falls mainly due to fluctuations in commodity prices globally.

The WPI Food inflation decreased from 8.89 percent in December 2024 to 7.47 percent in January 2025.

The index for the manufactured products group increased by 0.14 percent to 143.2 (provisional) in January 2025 from 143.0 (provisional) for the month of December 2024. Enditem
