NEW YORK, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar softened in late trading on Friday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased by 0.57 percent to 106.705 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).
In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.0499 U.S. dollars from 1.0436 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.2595 dollars from 1.2537 dollars in the previous session.
The U.S. dollar bought 152.21 Japanese yen, lower than 152.94 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar declined to 0.8986 Swiss francs from 0.9039 Swiss francs, and it decreased to 1.4160 Canadian dollars from 1.4232 Canadian dollars.
