NEW DELHI, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- At least 15 persons, including 10 women and three children, died and more than 25 were injured when a stampede occurred at the New Delhi railway station late on Saturday night, confirmed a government official.
There was a huge crowd of people at the railway station to board a train to Prayagraj district in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh to take the holy dip in "Triveni Sangam," the confluence of three rivers, namely Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati during the ongoing spiritual festival "Maha Kumbh."
The stampede occurred due to confusion about the arrival of the train at one of the platforms at the New Delhi railway station.
The dead bodies had been recovered and those injured were admitted to a local hospital for necessary medical treatment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences at the loss of human lives. Enditem
