DHAKA -- Bangladesh's current account balance recorded a surplus after nearly a year as per the latest data released by the Central Bank of Bangladesh.

According to the Bangladesh Bank (BB), the current account balance showed a surplus of 33 million U.S. dollars during the first half of 2024-25 fiscal year against a deficit of 3.47 billion dollars during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year (July 2023-June 2024). COLOMBO -- The Maldivian government is aiming to plant 2 million trees before the end of 2025 as part of its Five Million Tree Plantation Program, PSM News, the official media outlet, said on Sunday, quoting Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim as saying.

ISLAMABAD -- Eleven people were killed and seven others injured in two separate road accidents in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province on Sunday, local media and police said.

One of the accidents occurred in the Multan district in a traffic pile-up involving a passenger van, a car, and a motorbike, resulting in six deaths and seven injuries, police sources from the district told Xinhua. (Pakistan-Punjab-Road accident)

TOKYO -- A Japanese fishing boat carrying five people capsized off Japan's northernmost main island of Hokkaido on Sunday, leaving two crew members missing, local media reported.

According to the Japan Coast Guard's Rumoi office, at around 4 p.m. local time, the Kitarumoi Fishery Cooperative Association reported to the fire department that a fishing boat had capsized off the coast of Tomamae Town in Hokkaido, public broadcaster NHK said. (Japan-Boat capsizing) Enditem
