TUNIS, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian security forces have dismantled a drug trafficking network active in the eastern province of Sfax, arresting three individuals, the General Directorate of National Security said Sunday on its Facebook page.
"Following extensive field investigations and intelligence efforts, the regional anti-drug unit's security teams in Sfax successfully dismantled a network involved in drug trafficking and money laundering, leading to the arrest of three individuals," it said in a statement.
During the operation, authorities seized 1,750 ecstasy tablets, 32 plaques of cannabis, 500 grams of cocaine, and a significant amount of cash, it said.
"This operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle organized crime and disrupt drug trafficking networks in the region," it said, without giving further details.
The public prosecution had authorized the suspects' detention pending investigation.
The Tunisian government has taken a strong stance against drug trafficking, arresting hundreds of individuals involved in the crime during recent nationwide operations. Enditem
