JAKARTA, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) plans to develop a nickel-based electric vehicle (EV) battery recycling plant by 2031, according to IBC President Director Toto Nugroho.

The company aims to recycle more than 99 percent of battery components, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the nickel industry.

"The nickel used in car batteries can be recycled and reused," said Toto during a meeting with the House of Representatives on Monday.

Beyond supporting the sustainability of Indonesia's nickel industry, the plant will also help address concerns about nickel availability.

This recycling facility will be integrated into the broader electric battery industry ecosystem being developed in Indonesia.

In addition to electric vehicles, recycled batteries will also be utilized in energy storage systems for renewable energy-based power plants. Enditem
