NIAMEY, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) will provide more than 92 billion CFA francs (about 142 million U.S. dollars) to help Niger improve its education sector, a UNICEF representative has said.
The funding will "support the country's education system, particularly by improving access to education and the quality of school infrastructure," the representative, Djanabou Mahonde, told the media Monday after a meeting in Niamey with Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine.
She commended Niger's efforts in improving education, particularly in the construction of classrooms.
"The Nigerien government is placing great emphasis on creating a healthy educational environment by transforming classrooms from straw huts into permanent structures," Mahonde said. Enditem
