COLOMBO, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Maldivian government will look to keep prices down of over 140 essential food items stable during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, PSM News, the official media of the Maldives, reported on Tuesday quoting Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed.

The items include 93 basic items used for household consumption, 38 items of fruits and vegetables and 10 items of fish and seafood, the minister said.

The government is working with the State Trading Organization to keep prices of most essential items stable, set to begin on March 1, Saeed said.

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has also set up a special platform to closely monitor the prices of essential commodities in the market, he said.
